Wonderful wonder foods!

Wonderful wonder foods

Our friends over at Stop the Pop have jumped on board our cause and done us a massive favour by utilising their expert nutritional knowledge and researching which foods can provide our skin with vital added sun protection! To check out the list of foods that we should all be eating this summer, read their post at: http://stopthepopcampaign.wordpress.com/2013/10/11/food-skin-protection-burn-soothing-follower-request/

So, after our recent (yummy) discovery about dark chocolate we decided to look into this a little more!! We found out that tomatoes – one of our favourite salad additives – contain an antioxidant called lycopene which works as a natural guard to UV for our skin, but is something that our bodies only really get through consuming tomatoes. The BBC conducted an experiment to attempt to decipher how effective the consumption of tomatoes were in practically protecting our skin. Their findings proved that indeed, those who consume a certain amount of lycopene from tomatoes did have an increased tolerance to UV rays! After all this food talk, we know what will be on our shopping lists this summer!

  1. It’s amazing what food can do for your health, especially when its not only doing good things on the inside, but in addition helping the outside (like skin protection). By eating the foods you’ve listed above, as well as protecting your skin and eyes from the sun by using protective measures such as the “slip slop slap seek slide” campaign, we are at a lesser risk of developing problems caused by high exposure to the sun. Here at The Eyes Have It, we have looked into the benefits of carrots and the wonderful things they can do to protect and help you maintain healthy eyes. Carrots contain beta-carotene, a substance that the body converts to vitamin A, an important nutrient for eye health, just a little fun fact for any of your followers interested in eye health. Thanks for the post!

  2. Wow this is awesome! As a surfer I can really appreciate anything that will help me protect myself from the sun! Lucky I eat HEAPS of those foods that you have mentioned (especially salmon yum yum). Really interesting post guys I had no idea that food could help your skin. And what an awesome excuse to eat more chocolate!?!

  3. Such a good tip! It is really hard to keep a clear skin during summer time since skin will be exposed under the strong UV from the sun for so long! 😦 Actually I have tried making tomato wash-off mask by myself before to heal my serious acne problem and it actually works! Not only having less pimples, but it also helps to whiten the skin! After that, I recognised that having a good diet can also contribute for healthy skin. Therefore, adding tomato slices into the recipes we have suggested in our blog (http://chefofhealth.wordpress.com/) is not an bad idea, right?

Carry on updating the blog and provide us more ideas!
